Is Larry The Cable Guy a racist prick. Well, I've never found him funny, so I wasn't planning on seeing his new feature length fart joke anyway, but a tirade on David Cross' website has me wanting to spread the word. I'll let Larry speak for himself. Here are quotes Cross uses in making his argument that Larry is something much worse than just an amazingly unfunny comedian. And note, the insertions, in parenthesis are Cross' not mine.
Re: Abu Ghraib Torture -
"Let me ask some of these commie rag head carpet flying wicker basket on the head balancing scumbags something!"
Re: Having a Muslim cleric give the opening prayer at the Republican Convention -
"What the hell is this the cartoon network? The Republicans had a muslim give the opening prayer at there (sic) convention! What the hell's going on around here! Is Muslim now the official religion of the United States!... First these peckerheads ( Ironically, "peckerhead" was a derogatory word slaves and their offspring used to describe white people) fly planes into towers and now theys (sic) prayin' before conventions! People say not all of em did that and I say who gives a rats fat ass! That's a fricken slap in the face to New York city by having some muslim sum-bitch give the invocation at the republican convention! This country pretty much bans the Christian religion (the religion of George Washington and John Wayne) virtually from anything public and then they got us watchin' this muslim BS!! Ya wanna pray to allah then drag yer flea infested ass over to where they pray to allah at!"
Cross then posts his favorite quote:
"...now look, I love all people (except terrorist countries that want to kill us)..."
The group I think Larry's the's most racist against are the white southerners that love him. He is to southern whites what black face was to Southern Blacks. Here's a guy who did not grow up in the south, playing a big southern dumb ass for all the wannabe country goofballs of the country to eat up.
I'm not a big David Cross fan either to be honest, but I'm glad he's bringing this stuff to light. You can read his open letter to LTCG here and witness him wasting lots of space being un PC and congratulating himself on being un PC. Compared to the Cable Guy though he's a freakin' genius.
Thanks to Heckasac for linking the Cross story.

Uh, yeah, compelling argument there anon. I mean, I don't know what to say. After reading your impassioned and well reasoned argument I'll have to retract my statements and admit that Larry is indeed "awesome" and despite calling people "rag head carpet flying wicker basket on the head balancing scumbags" he is clearly NOT a racist. Thank you for opening my eyes.
I've listened to and performed comedy all my life. (For real, I was a ventriliquist nut as far back as preschool.) What you can consider funny can betray racism. Black face comics were "just joking" yeah?
As my spreading propaganda "all over the internet", I think it's you who needs a sense of humor. I'm expressing my opinion honestly with no hidden agenda here on my little personal blog. You say "If you don't like, don't listen." I could say, if YOU don't like, DON'T read, but I won't. Do read, do express your opinions. I'm glad of it, and I'll do the same.
As for me "criticizing someone for ragging on my beliefs" I write with the assumption that I'm writing for other people who hold anti-racist beliefs. If I'm not showing courtesy towards racists, I'm okay with that.
One last thing, you're caps lock seems to be stuck. You might want to look into that.
Git R, oh I just can't do it. It aint me.
I agree with anonymous. Larry is a very talented comedian and many of his jokes have en element of truth behind them. As for being a racist? So what? I don't know one person who isn't racist! EVERYONE has their prejudices. EVERYONE.
What a bunch of crap to post this and ask for comments. He's speaking of assholes in this world who want to kill any American just because we are an American. Those people are racist, sexist, bigoted and homo phobic. It's a fact that they throw homosexuals off tall buildings. They stone to death female adulterers, or give the man or woman 100 lashes with a whip. Those people usually die from the lashing.
And I read here how some of you are concerened Larry's racist. I do not see him advocating throwing homosexuals off the Empire State building, stoning to death a woman for adultery, or giving 100 lashes.
As for Abu Grab.... They had pictures taken.... I saw no beheadings, or beatings with wire, no genitals being hooked up to a battery, like Saddam or the Terrorists do.
Larry is not racist...
Go to the Middle East..... Walk down some of the streets unarmed... You'll find out what racism is. You'll be attacked just because you're an American. When that happens...
Do you belive you deserved it ??
Did YOU do anything to anyone over there ?? I haven't and I will never deserve it.
I think all these comments add even more credibility your post. Thanks folks.
Yep. I do think you're right there.
Larry aint racist, he just don't like them other races.
He's just tellin' it like it is.
He's just not afraid to be politically incorrect.
blah blah blah
I absolutely love racist comedy, and joking around about race. When you read those quotes, they are not funny in any way. Now if he said them in a creative way, and actually turned it into a joke, then you could propose the argument that he is saying it in a funny tone, but regardless, still racist.
The fact that so many people have come on here and said this is not racist, proves my theory of his fans not being the most intelligent individuals. The kind of people that would laugh at something like "git r done".
Yeah, it really does require a certainly level of sophistication to know the difference between laughing at our racial differences and the resultant tension and celebrating the hatred while cheering on your team. It's a level of sophistication that Larry or at least his fans have not reached.
get a sense of humor.
stop being so damn politically correct.
its a joke. hes a comedian.
I love comedy. Dedicated my life to it in fact.
And I love well done humor about race; Pryor, Carlin, Mull, Dick Gregory.
It's a weak argument to excuse anything someone says because they're a comedian. Lenny Bruce and Charlie Chaplin were both comedians as well who were really passionate about what they had to say.
Yes, it's a joke, but what is considered funny is important here.
Anyone can make an argument in their favor when they hand pick various quotes and stack them together to suit their cause.
I've listened to a lot of Larry and I hear him picking on EVERYONE! hmmm... I sure didn't see any white trash jokes on your page but I've heard him make plenty. If I want a lop sided perspective, I'll just turn on the TV and watch the news because just like you, they're open minded and intelligent.
Lighten up, it's funny!
p.s. anonymous #3... you make a good point but stop using all caps, it's impossible to read FFS. :)
Thank you.
Your rambling, enraged, unfocused rant makes my point better than I ever could.
Well you're right about Keith Lowell Johnson. He's awful.
You guys all make the same argument. I've already adressed that there are white guys who do racial humor and its done well. Martin Mull is fine example. George Carlin's another, as is Lenny Bruce. It's not that he's white, it's that "rag head carpet flying wicker basket on the head balancing scumbags" is not funny. Sorry. Go ahead, excuse it as a joke. It's racist.
If you excuse all racism by saying "It's just a joke" what are the racists supposed to do whent they WANT to make a racist joke? Seriously man, be fair to the racists.
By the way I'm on tour right now with a man from India, a women from Iran, a Jew from Arizona and a born again Christian white guy. I do LOTS of racial and religious based humor. For some reason people never doubt that I'm joking. Hmmmm? GO figure.
And anyone else who wants to comment, why not read the other comments and see if six people have already made your same argument first?
your all retarted, larry the cable guy is the best out there
Wow, that IS a strong argument and that sentence structure, goodness gracious me!
I think that what you intended to communicate is:
You're all retarted! Larry The Cable Guy is the best out there.
You are quite clearly a genius.
well i dont use capitals letters or correct punctuations because there for retards. sorry
Yes, for retards, brilliant. Can you at least use the right words?
"They're for retards" is what you were looking for.
It's fine though. It helps me understand how Larry has fans. There is someone for every intelligence bracket.
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.....FACE!!!!!!
KLJ or KLGAY
KLGAY, definitely.
larry the cable is racist...if ur a retarded city folk! he is a funny guy and represents the south my homeland!so if you dont like him then why are you looking him up on the internet!? he has the right to speak his mind about those damn immigrants jus jus like you have the right to say he is racist. so dont be retarded think about it
1. If you're going to call people retarded, you should proofread your post first to assure that you don't come off a bit disabled yourself.
2. I never once implied that he doesn't have the right. I merely criticized him for comments that I perceive as racist. "think about it" yourself.
3. Are you arguing that he isn't racist? I'm a bit confused. You refer to "those damn immigrants" and this leads me to believe that your real message is; "Yeah he's racist. YAY! Woo Hoo! My strong white hero."
4. The Sioux Indian tribe just called. They wanted me to let you know that they agree with your statements about "those damn immigrants."
5. I love you.
Your comments are tiresome. Did you read the conversation that has already going on here? You're just repeating the same tired line. At least you are familiar with punctuation, capitalization and basic sentence structure. I'll give you that.
As I've pointed out, there is a difference between the jokes of Martin Mull, Lenny Bruce, George Carlin (all of whom did racial material, all of whom are white) and your man Larry.
Larry calls people "rag head carpet flying wicker basket on the head balancing scumbags" and that in itself is the joke. If you're not sophisticated enough to see the difference between that and the comics you mention than I doubt I can help you.
I do wonder though, if a comic WERE a racist, what would that look like?
Lastly, if you have a compelling argument to offer, why resort to comments like "Grow the fuck up you ignorant fuck?" You weaken your own argument and make yourself look bad by behaving in such an uncivilized manner.
whoever rote this...is a retard and should just go straight to hell before i kick them there...first of all i can definatly tell u dont know the difference between being a racist and telling jokes that may be racial...for the love of god delete this critisizing note and appologise to Larry 4 thinkin hes a racist
You are the last person that should be insulting anyone else's intelligence.
"whoever rote this...is a retard"
First off, its wrote not rote. And you should really work on your punctuation.
Now, read the other comments and you'll see that I've already addressed the other points that you attempt to make in your second grade scrawl.
And, why anonymous? I put my name on what I wrote. It wouldn't be because you're a coward would it?
When did I ever ask you to care about my life?
I posted my opinion on Larry's comedy and on racism in comedy and I made a much better attempt at an argument than you've been able to conjure.
You call me a bitch and you point out that more people like him than like me. It's a weak argument. Hitler enjoyed amazing popularity in his time as well. No, I'm not calling Larry Hitler, he's too stupid to ever be that dangerous.
As for you intentionally writing like a teenager, I hope that you are one. If not I'm very embarrassed for you.
Why are you afraid to put your name to your argument?
Yeah, I think a large part of the problem is that his audience, or at least his intended audience, is just too stupid to recognize the difference between laughing at a joke and letting a comedian tell them to be xenophobic and homophobic. I think that's more of a problem than whether he is joking or not (which I don't think he is). I've seen the same thing with South Park, which I actually enjoy most of the time. Some people just don't get that it's over the top. Also Chappelle's Show (which I REALLY liked). I don't think people actually figured out he was trying to make an intelligent social observations through comedy, they just liked yelling "I'm Rick James, BITCH". I think Dave said it best-
"You know why my show is good? Because the network officials say you're not smart enough to get what I'm doing, and every day I fight for you. I tell them how smart you are. Turns out, I was wrong. You people are stupid."
In hindsight, none of that really applies here, because I honesty don't believe Larry is trying to make an intelligent anything.
Well stated.
I'm so glad I wrote this because the collection of moronic comment I have compiled here are just so amazing. It's like a museum of stupidity. I should apply for some grants.
Now that last comment is just too poorly written to be real. It is quite obviously one of "us" doing a caricature of a Larry fan.
Right? I mean, I hope...
RU a jew mr. Jenson? Your not Lary the Cable Guys audiense. U don't understand where hes humor is coming from and its funny not like you Jew comic wannabe.
"1. If you're going to call people retarded, you should proofread your post first to assure that you don't come off a bit disabled yourself.

I'm black living in a small white town. People can never get over their own sterotypes; and people run to their sterotypes before they get to know some one. For the past decade I've realized comedy like Larry The Cable breeds alot of negativity.
People who live where they are the majority and dominant culture are lucky that they don't have to be looked down on and hated for reasons beyond their control. It is something that most people have no idea about. And if you do, then why not try to stop this kind of nationalized slander? It's impact is poisoning the well of this country, and by relation the world.
Too bad you'll never read this reply because you were too much of a coward to be anything but anonymous in your post.
Go back where you come from? I come from HERE! The place that has championed people like MLK Jr., Mark Twain, Ben Franklin and other folks who didn't love it or leave but stood up and complained and worked to improve.
As for comprehension of satire it is you who do not have a sophisticated take on the subject to think that you can't be a racist idiot just because you're also being funny. I assume you have known racists yes? They do make jokes.
And I'll hold up Carlin, Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, Louis CK and so many others as examples of race being dealt with in a way that is irreverent, ballsy and NOT racist. You do not have a monopoly on comedy fandom and you are talking to a passionate consumer of all things stand up. Larry is hack comedy for morons. Enjoy.
I'm aware this is an old post, but I had to say something. I find some of LTCG's material amusing. The things you mentioned here, not so much. But to be honest, I'm not here to talk about the post, so much as to say that the conversation in the comments here, is 1,000x funnier than anything I've ever heard from LTCG. These comments, are hilarious. Again, I know it's an old post, but I felt like contributing anyways.
It's not black and white. Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor make race jokes, and you're right, I'm fine with it but I'm also fine with it when George Carlin and Martin Mull do it (white guys) and I find Paul Mooney (black guy) just as offensive as I find Larry.
So, there's goes that theory. The rest of what you said, shows a knowledge of history and currently race relations that is absolutely pathetic. I have Irish heritage as well and yes the Irish were treated terribly but it was a national and cultural distinction. An Irishman can walk down the street and you'd never know he was an Irishman nor would anyone in this day and age care one way or another.
I know many middle class black people working ever bit as hard as us middle class whites and I know plenty of white drug addicts and white frat boy, rich kid pricks. Judging a race by their worst puts us in big trouble, as I am loath to be judge according to my kinship with the likes of you!
Why anonymous? Are you a coward who does not have the courage of his convictions?
Sweet Jeebus, Keith! You done kicked a nest of retarded hornets! The most laughably ironic aspect to this whole thread is that Larry doesn't even exist, yet these people are blindly batting for him.
Are they selling tickets to get off this planet yet? I just know that Bill Hicks and Sam Kinison are waiting for me with monster joints and billion-year-old scotch somewhere away from the stupidity.
I'm curious how comments that refer to a failed philosophy of governance, a religion prcticed by people of many different races, and a type of headgear worn by many races across an entire geographical region, are considered racist? Do you actually understand what racism is? Are you trying to be just another person who vilifies anyone who says something they don't like by branding them with an -ism? He is insulting a religion specifically. I'm curious how that offends you Keith.
Did someone really say "we took some blacks out of Africa and put them to work?" Seriously? I usually try to create a reasoned argument, but no. Fuck that guy.
WEL WHO DYED AN MADE YOU THE JOO KING OF COMMEDY KLGAY?!!? heh. just kidding. T. E. Wolfe here, you know - "anonymously". My lord I had no idea the level of virulent idiocy you have had to contend with on your own blog. My personal fave is the guy who told you to "Get Or Done". Are you familiar with Steve Hofstetter? He has an album called "Cure For the Cable Guy" that's pretty hilarious... used to have him on latenight radio via telephone once in a while and he never disappointed. We should do likewise one of these days.
I think he's Funny, and I always enjoy seeing him on TV
Free speech is free speech.. Don't like it, don't listen. You don't have to agree with or disagree with anyone or anything. If you don't or do like someone based on a trait you do not display that is your choice. I believe humans as a whole have gone way overboard on the it's my right to not be offended.. Guess what.. it is.. But you know what? It's ALSO your responsibility.. Heaven forbid someone actually has a disagreement. Jeez people. Grow a thicker skin and change the channel.
Johnny,
Could everything you just said also apply to you critiquing my blog post?
I didn't ask that he be censored. I didn't attempt to silence him. I wrote a critique of his comedy, just as you wrote a critique of my critique.
Nobodies free speech is being threatened.

The most important fact is we must keep it in the family. We must inbreed with our white cousins and repopulate our race. We must impregnate all white women so women must let every man engage in sex. But aside looks and let us repopulate the white race. Even if we must engage with our cousins.im against engaging with siblings but cousins , grandparents and aunts are fine.
Yes I agree...even if we must with our own mothers . We must save our race. I'm not racist but whites are becoming extinct. And I do want to shed light on family inbred traditions. There's nothing wrong with it . Animals do it all the time . We are mammals so why must this be taboo? I had sex with my sister and aunt and it was the best sex I've ever had.
Well I for one got my grandmother pregnant back in 2006 and I'm now my father's Stepdad. Nothing had change between our relationship. But it's a beautiful thing to give my father a new brother. My son is my uncle and I love him. People are misguided about the truth of loving your family and us as human beings. There is no law on who you can love
